Syllabus

Module 1: Introduction and Principles of Slope stability: Introduction, types of slope and failures, Factors affecting slope stability, Concepts of stability analysis, Factor Of Safety concept.
Module 2: Methods of Slope Stability analysis: Manual calculations and empirical relations, Numerical Methods, LEM, FEM, Stochastic Analysis.
Module 3: Slope analysis data and its acquisition: Geological Condition assessment and Interpolation, Geomechanically, Hydrological analysis and failure criteria, Major types of failures.
Module 4: Methods of Slope Stabilization: Load removal, Drainage, Retaining, Reinforcement, Physical , Chemical, Biological, Surface protection
Module 5: Slope Monitoring Methods and Prediction: On site monitoring Surface, Sub Surface, Remote Monitoring, IOT in Slope monitoring.

Course Objectives

  • To understand the basics of slope stability of natural and man made slopes.
  • Ability to understand and identify conditions affecting slope stability, and evaluate the stability in qualitative, quantitative, and stochastic manners
  • To understand and plan stabilization measures for designing stable slopes to remediation of unstable slopes.
  • To identify appropriate monitoring methods for prediction and remediation of slope issues

Course Outcomes

CO1: Ability to judge and assess factors affecting slope stability of natural and manmade structures. <br />CO2: Capacity to evaluate qualitatively and quantitatively the stability of slope under various failure regimes. <br />CO3: Understanding and application of various slope stabilization and monitoring techniques.
