Subject {L-T-P / C} : EE4301 : Robust and Optimal Control { 3-0-0 / 3}

Syllabus

Space, Range space, Null space, Convex set, Norm of a vector, signal and matrix, H2 and H8 norm, Hamiltonian matrix, Riccati equation. The concept of robustness in SISO and MIMO systems, Small-gain theorem, Robust controller synthesis using H8 norm minimization, µ-synthesis, LQR problem, Guaranteed stability margins of LQR, Linear estimation, Separation Theory, Standard H2 problem, Stability Margins of H2 Controllers.

Course Objectives

  • Students will be competent in critical questioning and analysis of the mathematical tools used in robust control.
  • Students will have an appreciation of the necessity and difficulty of making choices between different control theories.

Course Outcomes

At the end of the course, students will be aware of signals and system norms, their applicability in robustness analysis, disturbance rejection and controller synthesis.
