Syllabus
Study of pearlitic transformation in mild steel and rail steel. Study of microstructural changes in mild steel and rail steel after normalizing. Study of martensitic transformation in steels. Effect of tempering on hardened steels. Mechanical properties of steels after different heat treatments. Study of phase transformation in Brass.
Course Objectives
- To provide sufficient knowledge about the methods of testing for some of the properties of iron ores , coal and limestone.
- To provide knowledge about the methods of determination of some of the thermodynamic properties like free energy change, equilibrium constant, etc.
Course Outcomes
1.Provides knowledge to the students about methods of testing of iron ores for their strengths and abrasion resistances. <br />2. Imparts knowledge to the students about methods of testing of metallurgical Coke for determination of their micum indices. <br />3. Enriches knowledge about the method of pelletization of iron ore fines. <br />4. Imparts knowledge to the students about the methods of determination of some of the thermodynamic properties like free energy change, equilibrium constant etc for some of the reactions occuring in metallurgical industries. <br />5. Imparts knowledge about the method of determination of percentage reduction in iron ore by coal ,etc <br />6. Provides knowledge about the method of determination of positive and negative deviation from ideality in forming a solution
