Subject Nature : Practical

Coordinator : Prof. Sanjeeb Mohanty

Syllabus

1. Determination of regulation of three phase alternator by synchronous impedance method.

2. To conduct load test on a separately excited dc generator and obtain its internal and external characteristics.

3. Speed control of slip ring induction motor by varying rotor resistance and to obtain speed torque characteristics at different rotor resistance.

4. Study of open circuit and short circuit test of single phase transformer and determination of equivalent circuit parameters.

5. To observe speed control of DC motor using:
(A) Variation of armature voltage (B) Variation of field flux.

6. Determination of equivalent circuit parameters of 3-phase induction motor using no load and blocked rotor test.

7. Measurement of three phase power by two wattmeter method.

8. Verification of Thevenin and Superposition theorem.

9. Testing of single phase energy meter at different power factors.

Course Objectives

 • To conduct testing and experimental procedures on different types of Electrical machines
 • To analyze the operation and control of electric machines under different loading conditions
 • To familiarize on different electrical circuit parameters measurement in both single phase and three phase system
 • To verify different methods and theorems in electrical circuits

Course Outcomes

After studying this course the students would gain enough knowledge on

CO1: formulate and then analyze the working of any Electrical Machine under loaded and unloaded conditions.

CO2: identify the abnormal conditions related with the Electrical Machine.
CO3: select a suitable measuring instrument for measuring Electrical and Non-Electrical quantities for a given application.

CO4: perform three phase power calculations.

CO5: verify all network theorems.

CO6: obtain the equivalent circuit of Electrical Machines.
