Subject {L-T-P / C} : EC4712 : Digital Image Processing Laboratory { 0-0-2 / 1}

Syllabus

Pre-requisite- EC 3705: Digital Signal Processing Laboratory

1. Familiarization with MATLAB toolboxes for Digital Image Processing.
2. Pixel-wise transformation of a given image using the operations:
a. Image Negative
b. Logarithmic transformation
c. Gray level Slicing
3. Finding the following for a given image:
a. Spatial Resolution
b. Intensity Resolution
c. Bit-plane Resolution
4. Use of histogram equalization to contrast enhancement of a given image.
5. Spatial filtering in presence of different noise.
6. Finding the spectrum of a degraded image and identify image spectrum and noise spectrum. Finally measure the Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR).
7. Frequency domain filtering for removing color noise.
8. Use of Notch filter to extract periodic noise from a given image and find its pdf and also, power content.
9. Use of Notch filter to restore an image from Gaussian color noise and measurement of SNR in restored image.
10. Optimum Notch filtering with the help of both frequency domain and spatial domain filtering.
11. Mini project

Course Objectives

  • Learn MATLAB tools for image processing and image analysis.
  • Image enhancement, noise reduction and restoration.
  • Design of spatial domain and frequency domain image processing filter design.

Course Outcomes

It gives overall idea through hands-on practice on image processing for enhancement and restoration of an image from interferences appeared in practice. Hence, the lab course is helpful for developing the ability of students to do project work on various image processing related topics like pattern recognition, pattern classification, computer vision, etc.. The course also suits well in industry and research where students will be in future.
