Subject Nature : Theory

Coordinator : Prof. Arun Chowdhury

Syllabus

Surface chemistry solid-liquid interfaces application of surfactants electrokinetics properties of colloidal dispersions surface energy and surface tension solid-gas interfaces: adsorption, adsorption isotherms, specific surface area of solids, catalysis and it’s industrial application contact angle measurement hydrophilic and hydrophobic interaction micro-emulsion surfaces of solid: surface of crystals, characterization of solid surface.

Course Objectives

  • To gain the theoretical knowledge on interface phenomenon of materials. To identify the area of applied interface science and working with the related engineering problem.
  • To know the basic science of sol-gel science and to learn the technology which applies sol-gel science.
  • Assignments and problems are set so that one can successfully address the issues in sol-gel synthesis. One should be able to correlate the processing-structure-properties.
  • By completing the assignments students are prepared for future scientists/technologists to work in a team that develops new technical product.

Course Outcomes

To be able to approach the solution of related engineering problem. Designing new materials according to modern demand.
