Syllabus

1. Three point bending strength
-effect of span length
- effect of sample size
- effect of circular and square cross sections
- flexural strength of composite materials
2. Study of difference between three-point and four-point bend strength
3. Determination of Weibull modulus.
4. Measurement of splitting tensile strength and biaxial bending strength (ring on ring method)
5. Compressive strength of samples effect of sample size
6. Effect of porosity on strength and validation of strength.
7. Effect of ceramic whisker / and fibers on the strength of ceramic composites
8. Indentation hardness of ceramic materials
9. Wear testing of ceramics

Course Objectives

  • To equip the students with the ability to comprehend and analyze different mechanical testing of the ceramic materials
  • To develop capacity among the students to work as single or as team member
  • To translate the concept learned in the laboratory to real life industry.

Course Outcomes

At the completion of this Course students should be able to: <br />• Understand, analyse and explain the basic mechanical testing of ceramic materials <br />• Understand the technological significance of ceramic materials and components for various engineering applications.
