Syllabus

1. Study and operation of an electrical laboratory furnace

2. Calibration of thermocouple and determination of temperature profile of the furnaces.

3. Effect of process parameters on the response behavior of PID controller.

4. Calibration of PID temperature Controller.

5. DTA-TG analysis of decomposition of dolomite or Siderite (FeCO3).

6. Reversible DTA analysis of Quartz.

7. Dilatometry of kyanite.

8. Study of isothermal sintering behavior of ceramic materials.

9. Study of non-isothermal sintering behavior of ceramic materials.

10. Densification kinetics study using constant rate heating sintering.

11. Densification kinetics study using iso-thermal sintering.

Course Objectives

  • To provide in-depth practical knowledge on the high temperature processing of ceramics.
  • To provide in-depth practical knowledge on operation of Furnace and DTA, TG, Dilatometry of ceramic materials.

Course Outcomes

CO1 Demonstrate operation of furnace. <br />CO2 Demonstrate DTA-TG analysis of different ceramic materials. <br />CO3 Manipulation of high temperature processing equipment. <br />CO4 Enhance the experimental knowledge and competences. <br />CO5 Acquire data investigation and problem solving expertise, teamwork and patience.
