Syllabus

1. Standardization of EDTA and determination of hardness of supplied water.
2. Quantitative estimation of silica and mixed oxide (iron oxide and aluminium oxide) present in a cement sample
3. Determination of alkali content of a ceramic sample by flame photometer.
4. Direct determination of silica in Quartz by HF treatment
5. The rapid method of determination of iron oxide in river sand,
6. Chemical analysis of clay/magnesite/bauxite following Na2CO3/NaOH fusion.
7. Analysis of Ordinary bottled glass.
8. Analysis of chromite ore by an acid fusion method
9. Determination of CEC of a clay sample.
10. Determination of moisture absorption capacity of Silica gel.

Course Objectives

  • a) To provide a training in advanced chemical analysis technique of ceramic materials.
  • b) To develop the ability among the graduates to comprehend, analyze, and solve analytical problems through proper training relevant to the general practice of Ceramic material analysis.
  • c) To develop an understanding of enquiry-based learning and demonstrate analytical skills
  • d) To prepare graduates for successful careers in R&D sector of industry, academia and research organizations.

Course Outcomes

Graduates will possess. <br />1. Strong fundamental knowledge and skills in chemical analysis techniques of ceramic and laboratory management and be able to apply this to a professional workplace. <br />2. Expertise in the usages of wet chemistry techniques related to ceramic material analysis. <br />3. The ability to use chemicals, glassware and small equipment with proper care. <br />4. Self-confidence to work as an individual or as a team member. <br />5. Ability to write a scientific report
