Course Objectives

 • The basic aim is to conduct experiments to acquire adequate knowledge in determining dynamics of open-loop and closed-loop systems
 • Study the performance of various conventional controllers in controlling common process variables such as temperature, pressure, level and flow

Course Outcomes

By the end of this course, a student should be able to:
1. understand and use the hardware and instrumentation needed for automatic process control
2. develop mathematical models of chemical processes by writing unsteady-state mass and energy balances. Validate the model outputs with the experimental results of real processes
3. characterize the dynamics of first order and higher order open-loop and closed-loop systems
4. implement and tune various conventional controllers on real systems controlling process variables such as temperature, pressure, level and flow.
5. work in a team to perform laboratory experiments and write technical reports
