Subject {L-T-P / C} : CH2471 : Biochemical Engineering Laboratory { 0-0-3 / 2}

Syllabus

1. Familiarise with different instruments handled in biochemical Lab
2. Estimation of amount of sugar by DNS method.
3. Estimation of Protein by Biuret test
4. Isolation of microorganism from soil by using serial dilution technique.
5. To study the different streaking technique for isolation of pure culture.
6. To study the growth of bacteria
7. To immobilize microbial cells in Ca-alginate beads through entrapment process.
8. To separate the microbial cells by centrifugal techniques
9. Separation of leaf pigments using Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC)

Course Objectives

  • The basic objective is to equip the students with various equipments handled in the lab
  • To enable the students to gain hands on experience in handling microbial species through cell culture and isolation techniques
  • To enable the students to learn sterilization and cell separation techniques
  • To help the students to understand the cell growth kinetics and interpret data in various kinetic models

Course Outcomes

On attending this course the students will be able to: <br />(i) Handle the biochemical lab equipments independently <br />(ii) Conduct microbial isolation through different techniques <br />(iii) Understand the various sterilization and cell isolation techniques <br />(iv) Perform experiments on cell growth kinetics
