Module 1 Introduction: Air and water pollution issues solid waste discharged 1 hour
Module 2 Air Pollution: Classification, Sources, Effects 3 hours
Module 3 Plume characteristics: Lapse Rate, Numericals on stack height 4 hour
Module 4 Sampling and analysis techniques: water and air sampling methods, various analyzing techniques and recent developments in these areas 2 hour

Module 5 Air Pollution control devices: settling chamber, Electrostatic precipitators, cyclone separators, fabric filters 6 hours

Module 6 Water Pollution : Introduction, water pollutant sources their effects recent issues in water pollution 2 hours

Module 7 Water characteristics and its monitoring: Physical, chemical and biological characteristics of waste water, Different methods for testing, analysis and continuous monitoring 2 hours

Module 8 Methods for treatment of waste water: Preliminary treatment, Primary treatment, secondary treatment and advanced treatment methods 2 hours

Module 9 Advanced water treatment method: Adsorption, membrane separation 2 hours

Module 10 Numericals on waste water treatment: Activated sludge process, Trickling bed filtration 3 hours

Module 11 Solid Waste Management : Introduction, Types of waste, sources, effects Classification of solid waste and treatment, Municipal solid waste, E-waste, Industrial waste, radioactive wastes 3 hour

Module 12 Environmental Management System: Introduction, Environmental Impact Assessment, Environmental Audit, Life Cycle Assessment and ISO 14000 series, Integrated System for EMS 5 hour

Course Objectives

  • To understand the sources and effect of pollutants on the environment
  • To equip with all the rules and regulations pertaining to environmental pollution and control
  • To design environmentally benign process and pollution abatement.

Course Outcomes

The course is intended to provide students with the following benefits: <br />CO1: To Comprehend different sources and impact of pollution on society, resources and buildings. <br />CO2: To understand the methods to control the pollutants and select a suitable device to mitigate it. <br />CO3: To familiarize with environmental management tools, regulations and policies.
