A : General Academic Administration

NIT Rourkela is an Institute of National Importance and is an Autonomous Body under the Ministry of Education, GOI.
Yes, NIT Rourkela is registered under Societies Act and its Registration No is 21406/210.
NIT Rourkela offers UG, PG and Research programs. Under UG programmer there are 14 B.Tech (4Years), 14 Dual Degree B.Tech & M.Tech (5years), B.Arch (5years), 4 Integrated M.Sc. (5years) programmers are offered. Under PG programmers, there are 28 M.Tech (2years), 5 M.Sc. (2years), MA in Development Studies (2years) and MBA (2years) programmers are offered. Under Research programmers, PhD, M.Tech (By Research), PDF, RA and D. Sc. Programmes are offered. B : Admission

One can take admission to the Undergraduate programme (B.Tech, B.Arch, Dual Degree B.Tech & M.Tech, Integrated M.Sc.) at NIT Rourkela only through Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) after qualifying JEE (Main) examination of the same year. No other means of admission is available at NIT Rourkela.
One can take admission to M.Tech programme through Common Counselling for M.Tech(CCMT) after qualifying GATE. If seats remain vacant after GATE qualified candidates, in some specific low popular Specializations, admission can be given to Non-GATE candidates.
Apart from M.Tech, NIT Rourkela offers Postgraduate programmes in M.Sc. ( in Applied Geology, Chemistry, Life Science, Mathematics and physics), MBA and MA in Development Studies. All these are 2 years (4 semesters) programmes.
No. NIT Rourkela has discontinued MCA programme since 2007.
One can take admission to 2 years M.Sc. programme at NIT Rourkela through IIT JAM conducted by one of the IITs.
Admission to MBA programme at NIT Rourkela is done through an open advertisement and Institutional selection process. Advertisement comes during the month of January of the previous Academic Year which contains all details including selection process.
Selection for admission to MBA programme is not done purely through CAT score or any other score of the examination meant for management studies. However, these scores are given due weightage in the selection process along with Career Mark, Group Discussion and Personal Interview.
One can apply to NIT Rourkela against the open advertisement made by NIT Rourkela during the month of April May of the previous Academic Year. Details regarding eligibility and selection are mentioned in the advertisement.
For different programmes different fees are payable at the time of admission. They are as follows:

*Amount paid to the CSAB/CCMT/JAM will be deducted from the Admission fee.
For the programmes for which admission is done through central bodies like CSAB (for UG), CCMT( for M.Tech), JAM (for 2 year M.Sc.) etc. , if a student cancels/ surrenders his/her admission before the last date for seat surrender for the last round of admission so that his/her seat can be included in the vacancy list, he/she will get back full money after deducting Rs. 1000/- from the admission fee and the balance of Mess advance after adjustment of dues, if any.

F : Scholarship

SC/ST students are eligible for Post Matric Scholarship (PMS) of the respective State Governments if they satisfy the norms set by the State Govt. For that they need to apply in appropriate time to their State Govts.

Among the admitted students in the first year top 12 SC students and top 5 ST students are eligible to get TOP CLASS SCHOLARSHIP from the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, GOI and the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, GOI respectively provided their parental annual income is below 4.5 lakhs. These students will get Top Class scholarship for four years (first year to fourth year) provided they get promoted to the next higher year, else the scholarship will be stopped.

A student who will get Top Class Scholarship will not be eligible for Post Matric Scholarship. However, he/she may get PMS if his Top Class scholarship is stopped.

Only one. A student getting scholarship from one Govt. fund is not eligible for the 2nd scholarship.
Yes, they will get GATE Scholarship of Rs.8000/- per month paid every month subject to satisfying attendance requirement of the Institute.

Non-GATE students taken admission to M.Tech programme and belonging to SC/ST categories are eligible for Post Matric Scholarship (PMS) of the respective State Governments if they satisfy the norms set by the State Govt. For that they need to apply in appropriate time to their State Govts.

There is no provision of scholarship to the Non-GATE students of other categories. However, some students satisfying eligibility norms, may be given financial assistance from TEQIP – II fund till available.

No, an SC/ST M.Tech student getting GATE scholarship can not avail any other scholarship.

A PhD student having M.Tech/M.Pharm degree and within the age limit are eligible for Institute research fellowship for four years; first two years @ Rs.31000/- a month and next two years on satisfactory performance @ Rs.35000/- a month.

The maximum age limit is 32 years (35 years for SC/ST/Women candidates) to be eligible for fellowship.

Apart from Institute research fellowship, PhD students are eligible for External fellowships like Rajib Gandhi National Fellowship, Inspire Fellowship, Maulana Azad Fellowship, CSIR Fellowship etc. if they qualify for the said fellowship examinations and satisfy their terms and conditions.

M.Tech(Research) students are eligible for Institute research fellowship provided they have valid GATE/NET/GPAT score and are within the age limit of 28 years (31 years for SC/ST/Women candidates). Such students will get fellowship maximum for two years @ Rs.12400/- a month.
No, Sponsored students are not eligible for any type of fellowship.
M.Tech, M.Tech(Res) and PhD students need to return the scholarship/fellowship amount received till date to the Institute if he/she discontinues the programme. This is not applicable to the students of other programmes.

G : Foreign Students

At NIT Rourkela a foreign student can take admission under DASA, ICCR and MEA schemes.
Yes, a foreign student can take admission in any programme offered by NIT Rourkela provided he/she satisfies academic eligibility of NIT Rourkela.

Tuition fee for different schemes are as follows:

  1. DASA: US $ 7000 (US $ 3500 for students from SAARC countries)
  2. ICCR: US $ 4000 (US $ 2000 for students from SAARC countries)
  3. MEA (Welfare): As applicable to Indian students All other fees are same as applicable to Indian students (See A4 & A5) above.
No, there is no separate hostel for foreign students at NIT Rourkela.
