BIOGRAPHY
Singam Jayanthu, presently working as Professor since 2006 at NIT-Rourkela is Doctorate from IIT-Banaras Hindu University (1999). National Mineral Award -2000 winner for distinguished contributions to mining technology. Scientist in CSIR-CIMFR, and NIRM-Ministry of Mines during 1989-2006 after 2 years’ industrial experience in coal mines. Chief Editor of IME Journal, and completed 120 R&D Projects sponsored by Various Ministries of Govt. of India, and various coal and metal mines of India, authored over 250 technical papers published in various national/international journals and Proceedings of conferences. Presently conducting research also on applications of trans-disciplinary areas to mining industry such as Power Quality improvement, WSN, LoRa, AI, IoT, TDR, Soft computing techniques etc, for improving safety in mines. Being holder of Mine Managers certificate of competency, presented on issues of mining techniques and transdisciplinary research and innovations in various international seminars/conferences including research and academic institutions such as NIOSH, MSHA-USA, Aachen University-Germany, World conference on Multidisciplinary Research and Innovations in Dubai, World conference on ASET, Bangkok etc. Member of Technical Committee Environmental Appraisal of OSPCB since 2007. Chief Editor of IME Journal and being Fellow of IE(I), Honorary Secretary of The Institution of Engineers (India), Rourkela Local Centre, and Council member-Mining Division Board of IEI. HoD of mining Engg of NIT-Rourkela during 2007-2010. Dr Jayanthu has been pioneer in design and development of indigenous underground coal mining methods in India, and for the first time in Indian mining scenario, new mining methods introduced vis-à-vis thick seam mining with cable bolting, parting stabilisation with underpinning as scientist of CSIR-CIMFR, and international mining scenario as scientist of NIRM, introduced simultaneous extraction of three contiguous seams in Indian coal mines
