Faculty Profile

BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Sujit Sen graduated in Chemistry (Hons.) and Chemical Engineering (B.Tech.), both from Calcutta University in 1998 and 2001, followed by M.Tech. in Chemical Engineering from Calcutta University in 2003. He completed his Ph.D. from the Department of Chemical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur in 2011. He has worked as a senior research fellow in various organizations such as CSIR-CGCRI, Jadavpur, Kolkata, and Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. In 2011, he joined BITS Pilani, Rajasthan, as a Lecturer before moving to NIT Rourkela as Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering in the same year. He has a versatile area of research interests, experience and expertise focusing on real industrial and environmental issues that address UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – starting from cradle-to-cradle solutions to industrial waste to value-added material, wastewater treatment, environmental catalysis, green and sustainable synthesis of fine chemicals and polymers, carbon capture and utilization, etc. He is a recipient of many high-value projects from DST, ISRO, CSIR, MHRD etc. He has published many high-impact journals and patents. He is a recipient of “Fast-Track Young Scientist Award” from DST in 2013 for his work in hydrogen sulfide gas capture and fine chemical synthesis and “2019 Class of Influential Researchers” in 2011 by American Chemical Society for his work on Arsenic remediation. He is also a recipient of high-value multi-institutional IMPRINT-2 project in 2019 where he has developed a prototype to treat real industrial wastewater. He is the founder faculty advisor of American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) NIT Rourkela student chapter. Under his mentorship, the chapter and the students achieved many international awards for innovative activities.
