PH 3073: Properties of Solids Laboratory
1. Determination of the value of acceleration due to gravity ‘g’ by Kater’s Pendulum.
2. Determination of the value spring constant and effective mass of a given spiral spring.
3. Verification of the laws of transverse vibration using Sonomter.
4. Determination of the moment of inertia and radius of gyration using bifilar suspension.
5. Determination of the moment of inertia of fly wheel.
6. Determination of Poission’s ratio of the rubber.
7. Determination of the rigidity of modulus using Torsional pendulum.
8. Determination of the rigidity of modulus using Searle’s static apparatus.
9. Determination of the rigidity of modulus of copper wire using statical method.
10. Determination of the Young’s modulus by cantilever bending method.
11. Determination of the Young’s modulus of a given beam by bending using travelling microscope.
12. Determination of the rigidity of modulus of cooper wire using Maxwell’s needle
Course Objectives
- To provide the concepts for performing different experiments to study various general properties of the matters, recording of experiential data and the analysis of the data.
Course Outcomes
Students will understand the different general properties of the solid materials by doing the different experiments.
