Syllabus
The concept of cell, tissue, development and cancer. Cancer - Hallmarks, properties, angiogenesis and metastasis. Causes of cancer - Chemicals, Radiation, Infectious Agents, Heredity. Oncogenes, Tumor Suppressor Genes, the Epigenetic Basis of Cancer. Alteration of programmed cell death, Immune surveillance, Immunoediting, Regulatory lymphocytes in cancer, Stem Cell and Cancer stem cell, Cancer Screening, Diagnosis, Treatment and Cancer Prevention. Cell and tissue culture, Animal models.
Course Objectives
- Understand basic aspects of cancer and carcinogenesis.
- The molecular basis of cancer and analysis of detail pathway.
- Study of therapeutic approaches to control cancer.
- Basic principals and applications of mammalian cell culture and animal models to study cancer.
Course Outcomes
Students shall be able to discuss the basic concepts of cancer, its causative agents, molecular mechanism and immunoediting.
