History of Film, Film & Other Arts, Defining Genres, Plot, Narrative, Character, and Point of View
Module 2: Film Movements & Theories
Auteur Theory, German Expressionism, Soviet Montag, Italian Impressionism and Neo- Realism, Surrealism, and War Films
Module 3: Film & Society
Representations – Historic, Political, Cultural, and Religious, Modes of Reception and Levels of Impact.
Module 4: Indian Cinema
Indian New-Wave, Parallel Cinema, Trend of Liberalisation, Voice of the Marginalised, Narrating the Nation
Module 5: Evaluation and Criticism
Reception, Review, Discussions, and Case Studies
Course Objectives
- Encourage students to interpret films as a literary form and understand their pertinent role in the mediascape.
- Understand the representations of the facets of society as reflected in films.
- Evaluate and respond to thematic diversity, creativity, and socio-political implications of films.
- Appreciate the visual and linguistic aesthetics of films.
