Syllabus

Product quality control: Acceptance sampling methods- single, multiple and sequential sampling plans Recent developments in inspection methods. Statistical Process Control: Process evaluation and control by control charts: Various control charts including CUSUM charts and multivariate charts. Process capability studies: Various indices and approaches use of Nomo graphs Discussions on capabilities of Process, Machine and Gauge Unit yields and rolled throughput yield. Design Trade off Analysis – Design for Reliability – Reliability Analysis–Reliability Testing–Probability Distributions – Performance Standards – Process Capability – Risk Assessment Design of Experiments – Response Surface Models – Process Capability Modeling – Computation of variation – Probabilistic Optimization – Robust Design – Tolerance Analysis Design verification – Reliability Testing – Control charts. Central Limit Theorem for a family of reliability measures, modelling and reliability analysis of multi-state systems, Weibull data analysis for few or no failures, Markovian performance evaluation methods, software reliability and testing. Application of Software tools and Case Studies. In this course students will design a component using above mentioned techniques.

Course Objectives

  • • To develop students understanding of best practice approaches to Quality Engineering.

Course Outcomes

The course is designed to help students to achieve the following outcomes <br />• To equip students with the capability to apply basic quality problem solving tools. <br />• To equip students with the capability to develop, apply and interpret relevant statistical approaches in support of product/process characterization and control.
