Syllabus

1. Verification of Bernoulli’s theory.
2. Determination of coefficient of discharge for V-notch.
3. Determination of coefficient of discharge for Rectangular notch.
4. Determination of coefficient of discharge for Orifice meter.
5. Determination of coefficient of discharge for Venturimeter.
6. Determination of coefficient of friction loss through different Pipes.
7. Determination of minor losses due to bends, fittings and elbows in pipes.
8. Determination of Efficiency of Francis Turbine.
9. Determination of Efficiency of Pelton wheel turbine.
10. Determination of Efficiency of Kaplan turbine
11. Determination of Efficiency of Centrifugal Pump.
12. Determination of Efficiency of Reciprocating pump.

Course Objectives

  • Understand the concept of fluid mechanics and hydraulic machines.
  • Demonstrate the experiments in fluid mechanics and hydraulic machinery.
  • Use of various flow measuring devices such as Venturimeter, orifice meter and notches etc.
  • Understand the performance characteristics of turbines and pumps.

Course Outcomes

After the completion of this course, students will be able to: <br />CO1: Understand fluid dynamics and Bernoulli’s theory. <br />CO2: Understand the discharge measurement using a V-notch and rectangular notch. <br />CO3: Understand the principles of pipe flow and the measurement of different losses in pipe flow. <br />CO4: Apply the principles of Bernoulli's equation in the Venturimeter and Orifice meter. <br />CO5: Understand the working principle and performance evaluation of pumps and turbines.
