MODULE-I: Introduction to Multimedia Data Representation: Introduction to Multimedia, A Taste of Multimedia, Graphics and Image Data Representation, Colour in Image and Video, Fundamental Concepts in Video, Basics of Digital Audio. [6 Hours]
MODULE-II: Multimedia Data Compression: Lossless Compression Algorithms, Lossy Compression Algorithms, Image Compression Standards, Basic Video Compression Techniques [8 Hours]
MODULE-III: MPEG Video Coding Standards: MPEG-1,2,4 And 7 New Video Coding Standards: H.264 and H.265 [12 Hours]
MODULE-IV: Basic Audio Compression Technique, MPEG Audio Compression [5 Hours]
MODULE-V: Multimedia Communication and Networking: Network Services and Protocols for multimedia communications, Multimedia Content Distribution [5 Hours]
Course Objectives
- To understand what a multimedia system is.
- To analyze and design audio encoders and video encoders.
- To analyze and design multimedia communication networks.
Course Outcomes
After completion of this course, a student will be able: <br />1) To understand the fundamental concepts of multimedia signals and systems <br />2) To analyze multimedia systems <br />3) To design and develop multimedia systems <br />4) To design various multimedia systems like JPEG and MPEG encoders and decoders <br />5) To carry out research and development in the field of multimedia systems and algorithms.
