Syllabus

Milling of rice, wheat and pulses - Estimation of milling yield and performance characteristics of equipment used. Cleaning, sorting, grading and processing of fruit and vegetables. Food packaging material evaluation for water vapour transmission range, gas permeability (O2, N2 and CO2). Particle size analysis and energy requirement in communition. Flow properties of powders. Measurement of rupture angle and angle of interagranular friction of grains and powders. Estimation and measurement of flow rate, power requirement and pressure developed in single screw and twin screw extruder.

Course Objectives

  • To understand about various processing operations of agricultural materials.

Course Outcomes

An ability to conduct experiments, analyze and interpret data in food processing sector.
