Syllabus
Introduction to Wireless Communication. The Cellular concept, System design, Capacity improvement in cellular systems, Co channel interference reduction. Intelligent cell concept and applications.Technical Challenges. Mobile radio propagation: Reflection, Diffraction. Fading. Multi path Propagation. Channel modelling, Diversity Schemes and Combining Techniques. Multiple access techniques: - Introduction, FDMA, TDMA, CDMA, Space division multiple access, Design parameters at the base station, Practical link budget design using path loss models. Smart antenna systems, Beam forming. MIMO Systems. RAKE receiver. Multiuser Systems: CDMA Principle, Network design, Link capacity, Power control, WCDMA Network planning, MC-CDMA, OFDM, Cellular mobile communication beyond 3G. GSM, IS- 95, GPRS, UMTS, WLAN, WPAN, WMAN, Ultra Wideband communications, 4G and beyond 4G
Course Objectives
- Understand the information theoretical aspects (such as the capacity) of wireless channels and basic spread spectrum techniques in mobile wireless systems
- Introduce various wireless & cellular systems and standards in use and their basic operation.
- Design and planning a cellular system
Course Outcomes
• The student will be aware and able to visualize the various wireless & cellular standards <br />• The student will be able to formulate cellular design problems with advanced techniques, analyse problems with optimal use of communication resources like bandwidth and power etc.
