Subject Nature : Theory

Coordinator : Prof. Susovon Samanta

Syllabus

Introduction to Switching Converters , Structure and behaviour of the basic non-isolated DC-DC Converters: buck, boost and buck-boost etc., Structure and behaviour of the basic transformer-isolated DC-DC converters: Forward, Flyback, Half and Full Bridge etc., Steady State analysis and Power Stage Design, CCM and DCM operation of converters, Magnetics Design, Dynamic Analysis of Switching Converters: state apace averaging and circuit averaging technique, Controller basics, Pulse width modulation, Different Control Schemes of Switching Converters , Controller design, Design examples.

Course Objectives

 • The objective of the course is to design a power converter for a given application

Course Outcomes

Course Outcome:
1. Design the power stage for various converter topologies i.e. both isolated and non-isolated based on specifications
2. Design the magnetics (inductors and transformers) for different converter topologies
3. Derive the averaged switch model of the various converter for circuit simulation
4. Derive the various transfer functions for converter operating in both CCM and DCM
5. Design the controller for voltage and current mode control
