Syllabus

1. Observation the operation of different modules of ETT-101 Telecoms Trainer kit and modelling equations by using those modules.
2. Setting of an Amplitude modulator and demodulator by using ETT-101 telecom trainer kit and measurement of its depth of modulation.
3. Setting of a DSB-SC modulator and demodulator by using ETT-101 telecom trainer kit and analysis of the effect of signal parameters on transmitted and received signal.
4. Setting of a SSB-SC modulator and demodulator by using ETT-101 telecom trainer kit and analysis of the effect of signal parameters on transmitted and received signal.
5. Setting of a Frequency modulator and demodulator by using ETT-101 telecom trainer kit and analysis of the effect of signal parameters on transmitted and received signal.
6. Observation of the operation different sampling techniques on message signal and examine the effect of aliasing.
7. Analysis of the transmission and reception of a speech signal in PAM/TDM system.
8. Setting of a pulse width modulator and demodulator by using ETT-101 telecom trainer kit and observe its operation for message signal, speech signal.
9. Setting of PCM encoder and decoder by using ETT-101 telecom trainer kit and measuring the SNDR of the signal on the PCM decoder’s output.
10. Implementation of Delta Modulation and demodulation techniques by using ETT-101 telecom trainer kit and observation of the integrator’s step size on the delta modulator’s slope overload and granularity characteristics.
11. Implementation of Delta-sigma Modulation and demodulation techniques by using ETT-101 telecom trainer kit.
12. Mini Projects relevant to the experiments.

Course Objectives

  • To understand the analog communication system and representation of signals.
  • To comprehend various analog modulation & demodulation schemes, their design, operation & applications.
  • To understand the sampling, pulse modulation schemes, multiplexing techniques.
  • To analyze the performance of analog communication system in presence of noise and To build fundamental concepts in analog communication system for design any analog communication system as per the industrial requirements.

Course Outcomes

CO1 Understand the basics amplitude modulation, mathematical description and spectral analysis of DSB-SC & SSB-SC. <br />CO2 Understand the generation, detection of FM. <br />CO3 Draw on their knowledge on sampling theorem and its practical aspects, time division multiplexing, pulse modulation & Demodulation, and transmission & reception of a speech signal. <br />CO4 Understand the PCM encoder and decoder, delta modulation, and delta-sigma modulation.
