Syllabus
Module 1: Introduction to Microwave Engineering: Introduction to Microwave engineering, Review of Maxwell’s equations, Concepts of Energy, power, Review of Transmission lines theory. (4 hours)
Module 2: Microwave Transmission lines and related components: Microwave Transmission lines, Strip lines, waveguides, TE, TM and TEM modes, circular wave guide, Impedance Matching and Tuning, Microwave resonators. (8 hours)
Module 3: Microwave Network Analysis: Scattering matrix and its Properties, Relation of scattering parameters with other network parameters like ABCD, Z, Y, H, etc, Signal flow graph. (4 hours)
Module 4: Microwave Passive Components: Basic properties of 3-port and 4-port parameters, Power dividers, Couplers, Directional coupler, Termination, E-plane Tee, H-plane Tee, Magic Tee, Phase Shifter, attenuators, and circulators. (6 hours)
Module 5: Microwave Filters: Theory of analog filters, Butterworth, Chebyshev filters, Filter design by the Image Parameter Method, Filter design by the Insertion loss method, Filter Transformations, Filter Implementation, (8 hours)
Module 6: Microwave Measurement: Measurement of frequency and wavelength, Measurement of unknown loads, Measurement of reflection coefficient, VSWR and Noise, Microwave test bench.

- To understand basic microwave transmission lines, passive components, and circuits.
- To comprehend circuit analysis at microwave frequencies.
- To interpret behaviour of microwave circuits and systems.
- To grasp characteristics of microwave filters
