BIOGRAPHY

Sujit Kumar Bhutia is currently working as a Professor at the Department of Life Science, National Institute of Technology in Rourkela, India. He received his doctorate in cell biology and cancer from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India in 2009, and subsequently pursued post-doctoral research on autophagy and cancer at Virginia Commonwealth University, USA. Dr. Bhutia is studying the mechanistic aspect of autophagy and establishing its role in cancer to modulate apoptosis for better cancer therapeutics. He is also working on autophagy-dependent cell death, cell death type-II and deciphering the distinct molecular pattern from autophagy. His laboratory is also studying the crosstalk between autophagy and apoptosis and identifying the key molecules in switching and regulating the phenomena among them. Moreover, another focus is on potent mitophagy-inducing molecules from natural sources to diminish cell death and cytotoxic effects.
