BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Rajesh Kumar Prusty is an Assistant Professor (Grade-I) in the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela, where he leads research at the FRP Composite Laboratory. He completed his B.Tech (2006–10) and Ph.D. (2014–17) in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at NIT Rourkela, and earned his M.E. in Materials Engineering from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore (2011–13), graduating as a gold medalist and first rank holder in both B.Tech and M.E. degrees. He has been a faculty member at NIT Rourkela since March 2014, with brief prior experience as an Assistant Professor at KIIT University and as a Graduate Engineer Trainee at JSL Stainless Ltd. As of March 2026, his research credentials include 102 SCI-indexed journal articles, 3 authored books, 5 book chapters, and 4 patent filings (1 granted), alongside more than 136 peer reviews for journals such as Composites Science and Technology, Composites Part A, and Chemical Engineering Journal. His h-index stands at 26–30 across Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar, with over 2,000–2,700 citations depending on the database. He has served as Principal Investigator on multiple sponsored projects funded by Tata Steel, SERB, CSIR, and the Naval Research Board (DRDO), and as co-consultant on industry-facing consultancy projects with Tata Steel and Indian Metals and Ferro-Alloys. He has supervised or co-supervised 12 Ph.D. scholars, 30 M.Tech/dual-degree students, and 33 B.Tech thesis projects. His accolades include being ranked among the World's Top 5% Scientists (SciRank Global, 2025) and 3rd globally in Glass Fiber research specialty (in Prior Five years’ category by ScholarGPS, 2025) the Odisha Bigyan Academy Young Scientist Award (2023) All India Rank 1 in Metallurgical Engineering GATE 2011 and multiple gold/silver medals through his academic career. He has also held administrative roles including Warden of GDB Hall.
