NIT Rourkela Students Win Multiple Awards at BTTD-2026
Students of NIT Rourkela delivered an impressive performance at Behind the Teacher's Desk (BTTD-2026), held from 17 to 19 June 2026 at CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (CSIR-NML), Jamshedpur. The event was organized by the Indian Institute of Metals (IIM), Jamshedpur Chapter, in association with Tata Steel Limited, CSIR-NML Jamshedpur, and NIT Jamshedpur.
Swapnil Mohanty, a final-year B.Tech-M.Tech Dual Degree student in Ceramic Engineering, received the Best Oral Presentation Award in the Functional and Energy Materials category for his presentation on advanced sodium-ion battery cathodes.
Sthiti Sashikant Mishra, a final-year B.Tech student in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, won the Best Oral Presentation Award in the Corrosion and Surface Engineering category for her research on protective coatings for archaeological monuments and cultural heritage sites.
In the Debate Competition, the team comprising Swapnil Mohanty and Sthiti Sashikant Mishra of NIT Rourkela, along with Rachita Bhim Singh of IIT BHU, secured First Prize.
Adding to the institute's success, Swapnil Mohanty was also declared Runners-up in the Meta-Reels competition.
These achievements reflect the academic excellence, research capabilities, creativity, and communication skills of NIT Rourkela students, bringing pride to the institute.
