Abstract:
Present invention reveals a novel instrumentation which can be used to calibrate any IR or thermal camera for geometry, sensitivity and spatial sensitivity in general and specifically the dynamic range of the thermal camera. The said instrument is consisting of array of circular copper plates which are having controlled heating and chilling elements to achieve -25o to ~150o at steady state and allows to calibrate the dynamic range of the camera, however, is not only limited to this. The structural array is prepared with a Lego concept and ideated via 3D printed structural components which can be arranged geometrically of different size and enables the user to calibrate the said thermal camera spatially. The experimental observations made with two thermal cameras in laboratory environment discloses that, unlike to other invention, the proposed instrumentation with a single setup allows the user to calibrate the thermal camera for (i) geometry to compensate the perspective error in image, (ii) spatial sensitivity of the sensor array, (iii) IR resolution, (iv) spectral range, and (v) dynamic sensitivity calibration. This system is compatible to any atmospheric or room environment. The design is highly customizable in terms of its size. With addition or removal of temp-block with different size of joining elements the size of the array can be easily changed in size and shape. The heating/ cooling elements can be changed according to the requirements thus providing a versatile temperature range without creating a new board for different calibration requirements. The said array also can be used to calibrate the colour camera without controlling the temperature. Additionally, in controlling block, the metallic plates can be replaced with LED bulb and is suitable for normal camera calibration in any ambient light environment.
