Abstract:
The present discloses a sustainable photocatalytic process utilizing copper mining tailing waste (CMTP) as a photocatalyst for the degradation of organic pollutants, specifically targeting dyes and pesticides in contaminated wastewater. The photocatalyst is derived from copper mine tailings with an average particle size of 1 to 100 µm, preferable 2 to 50 µm, more preferably 5 10 to 20 µm, offering an eco-friendly solution for environmental remediation. The process involves using natural sunlight as the irradiation source and operates over 60–240 minute duration. The pollutants treated include organic dyes, as well as pesticides. A 2-4 mg/mL catalyst-to-solution ratio is maintained for effective degradation, achieving high removal efficiency without metal leaching, even after four cycles. This invention provides an efficient, 15 cost-effective approach to reducing environmental pollution and enhancing water quality, utilizing waste materials for sustainable water treatment applications.
