Abstract:
The present invention relates to an apparatus (100) and method (200) for determining the thermal diffusivity of a powder sample (7b). The apparatus (100) includes a test panel (7) with a rectangular cavity (7e) for holding a powdered sample (7b), a heating unit comprising a Nichrome coil-based heater, the said heating unit (9) capable of providing heat to the powdered sample (7b) by inducing a transient thermal state in the powdered sample that transitions to a steady state, a plurality of thermistors (7d) positioned in the test panel (7) for measuring temperature variations of the powdered sample (7b) during the heating, a microcontroller (11) interfaced with the thermistors (7d) for real-time data acquisition, and a computing system (12) configured to process and analyze temperature data to compute the thermal diffusivity of the powder sample (7b).
