NIT Rourkela Recognized at Annual Quantum Conclave 2026 for Advancing Quantum Education!
The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela has earned national recognition at the Annual Quantum Conclave 2026 for its growing initiatives in quantum education.
The honour was conferred by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, following the recommendation of a technical committee of DST that reviewed the proposal and curriculum of the Minor Degree in Quantum Technology offered by NIT Rourkela and extended its support for establishing an undergraduate quantum technology laboratory under the #NationalQuantumMission (NQM). In recognition of this, NIT Rourkela was honoured at the conclave held at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay on April 10–11, 2026. The proposal was prepared by the team comprising Prof. J. P. Kar, Prof. NILAY MAJI, and Prof. Shraddha Sharma from the Department of Physics and Astronomy, along with Prof. Dr. Shyamapada Mukherjee from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Prof. J. P. Kar, Head of the Department of Physics and Astronomy, received the recognition on behalf of the institute.
The Minor Degree programme in Quantum Technology at NIT Rourkela is offered jointly by the Departments of Physics & Astronomy and Computer Science & Engineering, reflecting a strong interdisciplinary approach to next-generation education.
Notably, NIT Rourkela is among 23 institutions across the country selected under the National Quantum Mission for the establishment of quantum teaching laboratories. The initiative aims to equip students with advanced knowledge and hands-on experience in quantum science and technology, aligned with emerging technological demands.
The conclave brought together leading scientists, policymakers, startups, and academic institutions working in the quantum domain. Through technical sessions, exhibitions, and demonstrations, the event highlighted India’s growing focus on quantum technologies.
