The one-day workshop on “Waste Management for Sustainable Village” was organised by the UBA-NIT Rourkela team, which serves as the Regional Coordinating Institution (RCI) under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan for the state of Odisha. The workshop witnessed active participation from faculty members of various higher educational institutions across Odisha that are part of the UBA network. As NIT Rourkela has been entrusted with the responsibility of acting as the nodal centre for promoting, coordinating, and strengthening the UBA network in Odisha, the event was aimed at building capacity, sharing best practices, and guiding participating institutions in addressing rural challenges through structured interventions.

The programme commenced with an inaugural session featuring opening remarks by Prof. Shekha Rai, followed by an overview of the workshop by Prof. R. K. Behera, Nodal Officer, UBA-NITR. Distinguished addresses were delivered by Prof. K. Umamaheshwar Rao( Director, NITR), Prof. Bibhudatta Sahoo (Chairman, UBA-NITR), and Prof. Rohan Dhiman (Registrar, NITR). The inaugural session concluded with the presentation of mementoes, a vote of thanks by Prof. Situ Rani Patre.

The technical sessions were the core of the workshop, offering valuable insights into practical and scalable waste management solutions. Technical Session (I) featured Dr. Ajay Kumar Mohanty, Founder-Director of A4conserv, and Smt. Puspalata Sahoo, AOI, RIC Rourkela. Technical Session (II) included expert deliberations by Dr. A. K. Mohanty, along with Prof. (Retd) R.K. Patel and Prof. H. B. Sahu from NIT Rourkela. The workshop concluded with a valedictory session where participants shared their feedback and reflections, followed by a campus tour. UBA-NITR team members, Prof. B. Tyagi, Prof. K. Rao, Prof. K. K. Mehta, Prof. S. Ghosh, Mr. R. Beuria, along with Mr. Prem, and Ms. Banita (Office Assistants) organised the program.

The workshop enhanced awareness and preparedness of institutions to implement sustainable waste management practices in rural areas, contributing to the broader goal of holistic village development under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan initiative.
