NIT Rourkela hosted a one-day educational exposure visit for students of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Bondamunda on February 5, 2026, under the PM SHRI Initiative Programme. The visit saw enthusiastic participation from over 270 students of Classes IX and XI, accompanied by their teachers, with the objective of broadening academic outlook and promoting experiential learning.
The programme commenced with an inaugural session addressed by Prof. K. Umamaheshwar Rao, Director, NIT Rourkela, and Prof. Rohan Dhiman, Registrar, NIT Rourkela. The event was coordinated by Prof. Suryanarayan Dash (Department of Physics and Astronomy) and Prof. Rabindra Kumar Behera (Department of Chemistry). Mrs. Hemalata Nayak, Principal, KV Bondamunda, and Mr. Nikhilesh Mohapatra, Coordinator, along with faculty members from the school, were present. A special interactive talk on 'Exoplanets: Search for Another Earth' was delivered by Prof. Abhay Pratap Yadav, engaging the young learners.
As part of the exposure visit, students visited advanced laboratories of the Physics, Chemistry, and Life Science Departments, where they observed scientific experiments, instruments, and ongoing research activities, gaining valuable practical insights beyond classroom learning.
The visit concluded with a guided tour of the NIT Rourkela campus, group photographs, and interactive reflections. The experience served as a motivating platform for students, encouraging curiosity and aspiration towards higher studies in science and technology.
