NCC Army Wing at NIT Rourkela celebrates Army Day with Major General (Dr.) Yashpal Singh Mor (Retd.).
14.01.2026: On the eve of Army Day, the NCC Army Wing, NIT Rourkela, organised CAMO CARNIVAL 3.0. (Annual Cultural Festival of NCC Army Wing-NITR). The programme organised in the BB Auditorium, NITR, commemorated the valour, discipline and selfless service of the Indian Army, while offering a vibrant platform for NCC cadets and students to celebrate leadership, national service and patriotism. The celebrations witnessed enthusiastic participation of over 800 attendees, including NCC cadets from the 9 Odisha Battalion, Rourkela, students, faculty members and staff. The event was organised by Prof. Mayank Yadav (Professor-in-Charge of NCC Army Wing, NIT Rourkela) with the support of various clubs of the Student Activity Centre (SAC).
Major General (Dr.) Yashpal Singh Mor, Sena Medal (Retd.), graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The programme commenced with a ceremonial lighting of the lamp in the presence of distinguished dignitaries, Prof. Niranjan Kumar Panda (Dean of Student Welfare at NITR) and Prof. Rajeev Kumar Panda (President, SAC-NITR). Prof. Bikramaditya Sahu and Prof. Ashirbad Jana (Co-PICs of NCC Army Wing-NITR) also joined the event.
The three-hour event featured a welcome song, followed by addresses by dignitaries. Students from different clubs participated in the cultural segment, with the Nritunjay Club presenting a patriotic dance performance, while the Kalaam Club recited patriotic Hindi poetry. The programme also included an Army documentary screening and an interactive podcast session with the Chief Guest, followed by a musical performance by Heartbeats Club and felicitation of the dignitaries. The event concluded with a vote of thanks and the National Anthem.
CAMO CARNIVAL 3.0 aimed to nurture discipline, leadership qualities and a deep sense of national pride among students through NCC and co-curricular engagement.
About the Chief Guest
Major General (Dr.) Yashpal Singh Mor, Sena Medal (Retd.), is a distinguished officer of the Indian Army with an illustrious career spanning over four decades. He is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy (NDA) and the Indian Military Academy (IMA). He had extensive operational experience, including counter-terrorism operations in Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab, for which he was awarded the Sena Medal and Army Chief’s Commendation. He also served on a UN peacekeeping mission in Mozambique. During his distinguished service of 40 years, he commanded infantry and armoured formations, held senior strategic appointments at Army Headquarters, and served in key leadership roles in Ladakh and the desert sector before retirement. Major General Mor is also a scholar and strategic thinker with a doctoral degree, combining operational experience with academic insight. Post-retirement, he continues to contribute actively to nation-building through leadership development, mentoring youth, and engaging with academic institutions, inspiring students with values of discipline, service, and integrity.
