BIOGRAPHY

Professor Ritwik Sarkar is an Academician and Researcher in Ceramic Engineering Dept., working since 2009 with career experience especially in Refractories > 30 years. He has also served in the Administration as Dean - Sponsored Research, Head – Centralized Instrumentation Facility, Head – Ceramic Engineering Dept., Warden of Hall, etc. Before joining to academics, Prof Sarkar has worked as General Manager –Technology, IFGL Refractories Ltd Scientist, CSIR: Central Glass & Ceramic Research Institute ACC- RCD Ltd (Refractories R & D) and H & R Johnson (I) Ltd. He has also worked at IKKM, RWTH-Aachen, Germany, with DAAD Fellowship, during 2003-2004. A batch topper of both B. Tech. (College of Ceramic Technology) and M. Tech. (Banaras Hindu Univ.) in Ceramics and PhD from Jadabpur University, Prof Sarkar has more than 200 publications (~100 SCI paper) and 8 granted patents. Scientific credentials have placed him in the list of Top 2% Scientist of the world prepared by Stanford University for consecutive 6 years (2020 – 25). Prof Sarkar has received Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund’s award, Dr. R. L. Thakur Memorial Award, Ganpule Award, Deokaran Award (twice), etc for his Academic excellence and Contributions in the field of Ceramics and Refractories. Prof Sarkar has published a fundamental text book on Refractory Technology (CRC Press, US) with two editions (2016 & 2023) and also one specialized book on Advanced Refractories, CRC Press (2025). He has successfully completed various Govt. and Private funded sponsored research, about 10 as Principal Investigator and many as Co-PI, working in different organizations. Under his supervision, already 9 students have awarded PhD degree with another 6 (including working professionals) are continuing.
