A1. NIT Rourkela is affiliated to which University/Body?
  NIT Rourkela is an Institute of National Importance and is an Autonomous Body under the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), GOI.
 
A2. Whether NIT Rourkela is a registered Institute?
  Yes, NIT Rourkela is registered under Societies Act and its Registration No is 21406/210.
 
A3. What are the different programmers offered by NIT Rourkela?
  NIT Rourkela offers UG, PG and Research programs. Under UG programmer there are 14 B.Tech (4Years), 14 Dual Degree B.Tech & M.Tech (5years), B.Arch (5years), 4 Integrated M.Sc. (5years) programmers are offered. Under PG programmers, there are 28 M.Tech (2years), 5 M.Sc. (2years), MA in Development Studies (2years) and MBA (2years) programmers are offered. Under Research programmers, PhD, M.Tech (By Research), PDF, RA and D. Sc. Programmes are offered. B. Admission
 
B1. How can one take admission in Undergraduate programme (B.Tech, B.Arch, Dual Degree B.Tech & M.Tech, Integrated M.Sc.) at NIT Rourkela?
  One can take admission to the Undergraduate programme (B.Tech, B.Arch, Dual Degree B.Tech & M.Tech, Integrated M.Sc.) at NIT Rourkela only through Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) after qualifying JEE (Main) examination of the same year. No other means of admission is available at NIT Rourkela.
 
B2. How can one take admission in M.Tech programme at NIT Rourkela?
  One can take admission to M.Tech programme through Common Counselling for M.Tech(CCMT) after qualifying GATE. If seats remain vacant after GATE qualified candidates, in some specific low popular Specializations, admission can be given to Non-GATE candidates.
 
B3. What are the other Postgraduate programmes offered by NIT Rourkela?
  Apart from M.Tech, NIT Rourkela offers Postgraduate programmes in M.Sc. ( in Applied Geology, Chemistry, Life Science, Mathematics and physics), MBA and MA in Development Studies. All these are 2 years (4 semesters) programmes.
 
B4. Whether NIT Rourkela offers MCA programme?
  No. NIT Rourkela has discontinued MCA programme since 2007.
 
B5. How can one take admission in 2 years M.Sc. programme at NIT Rourkela?
  One can take admission to 2 years M.Sc. programme at NIT Rourkela through IIT JAM conducted by one of the IITs.
 
B6. How can one take admission in MBA programme at NIT Rourkela?
  Admission to MBA programme at NIT Rourkela is done through an open advertisement and Institutional selection process. Advertisement comes during the month of January of the previous Academic Year which contains all details including selection process.
 
B7. Whether selection for admission to MBA programme is done through CAT score or any other score?
  Selection for admission to MBA programme is not done purely through CAT score or any other score of the examination meant for management studies. However, these scores are given due weightage in the selection process along with Career Mark, Group Discussion and Personal Interview.
 
B8. How can one take admission in MA in Development Studies programme at NIT Rourkela?
  One can apply to NIT Rourkela against the open advertisement made by NIT Rourkela during the month of April – May of the previous Academic Year. Details regarding eligibility and selection are mentioned in the advertisement.
 
B9. What is the fee payable at the time of admission?
  For different programmes different fees are payable at the time of admission. They are as follows:

*Amount paid to the CSAB/CCMT/JAM will be deducted from the Admission fee.
 
B10. After taking admission to a programme paying full fee if a student cancels his/her admission, how much money he/she will get back?
  For the programmes for which admission is done through central bodies like CSAB (for UG), CCMT( for M.Tech), JAM (for 2 year M.Sc.) etc. , if a student cancels/ surrenders his/her admission before the last date for seat surrender for the last round of admission so that his/her seat can be included in the vacancy list, he/she will get back full money after deducting Rs. 1000/- from the admission fee and the balance of Mess advance after adjustment of dues, if any.

For other programmes, he/she gets back only balance of Mess advance after adjustment of dues, if any. All other fees including Caution money is forfeited.
C. Obtaining Transcripts
 
C1. How can an Alumnus get Official Transcripts?
  An Alumnus can get Official Transcripts by submitting the following documents:

  1. An application mentioning the number of sets of official transcripts required and the address to which the transcripts will be sent, addressed to the “Assistant Registrar (Academic), NIT Rourkela, Rourkela- 769008, Odisha (India)”

  2. One set of Xerox copies of mark / grade sheet(s) and degree certificate.

  3. Bank draft of Required amount.
 
C2. What is the fee to be paid by an Alumnus to get Official Transcripts?
  Rs 500/- per Institution/University, subject to a minimum of Rs 1000/- i.e.; up to two Institutions/Universities Rs 1000/- & for more than two Institutions/Universities @ Rs 500/- per Institution/University. Payments should be made in the form of a bank draft drawn in favour of “Director, NIT Rourkela”, payable at any bank in Rourkela.
 
C3. How can an on roll student get Official Transcripts?
  An on roll student can get Official Transcripts by submitting the following documents:

  1. An application mentioning the number of sets of official transcripts required addressing to the “Assistant Registrar (Academic), NIT Rourkela, Rourkela- 769008, Odisha (India)”

  2. Bank draft of of Rs 500/-(for 2 sets) drawn in favour of “Director, NIT Rourkela”, payable at any bank in Rourkela and for more than two Institutions/Universities Rs 200/- per Institution/University.
D. Obtaining Certificates (Original/Duplicate)
 
D1. How can an Alumnus get his/her Original Degree Certificate?
  For an Alumnus pass out in 1993 and before need to submit the following to NIT Rourkela:

  1. Filled in “Degree-in-Absentia” form obtained from the website of Sambalpur University.

  2. Xerox copy of either Provisional Certificate or Final Mark sheet for verification.

[This will be verified and signed by the Dean(Academic) at NIT Rourkela. After verification, the same will be sent by the applicant to the Sambalpur University along with required fee (to be confirmed from SU) for release of Degree certificate.]


For an Alumnus pass out between 1994 – 2002 need to submit the following to NIT Rourkela:

  1. An application mentioning his/her studentship details and the address to which the degree certificate will be dispatched.

  2. Xerox copy of either Provisional Certificate or Final Mark sheet for verification.

  3. Bank draft of Rs. 150/- drawn in favour of “Director, NIT Rourkela”, payable at any bank in Rourkela.

For an Alumnus pass out in 2003 need to submit the following to NIT Rourkela:

  1. An application mentioning his/her studentship details and the address to which the degree certificate will be dispatched.

  2. Xerox copy of either Provisional Certificate or Final Mark sheet for verification.

  3. Bank draft of Rs. 1000/- drawn in favour of “Director, NIT Rourkela”, payable at any bank in Rourkela.

For an Alumnus pass out in 2004 and after need to submit the following to NIT Rourkela:

  1. An application mentioning his/her studentship details and the address to which the degree
 
D2. An Alumnus lost/damaged his/her Original Degree Certificate. How can he/she get his/her Duplicate Degree Certificate?
  An Alumnus pass out in 1993 and before needs to apply to Sambalpur University (SU) to get his/her Duplicate Degree Certificate. Documents to be submitted as per the requirement of SU, may be available in the official website of SU.

An Alumnus pass out in 1994 and after needs to submit the following to NIT Rourkela to get his/her Duplicate Degree Certificate:

  1. An application mentioning the address to which the duplicate certificate will be dispatched.

  2. Xerox copy of the lost/damaged certificate (if available)/ Provisional certificate/ final mark/grade sheet.

  3. Police FIR.

  4. Affidavit.

  5. Bank draft of Rs. 2000/- drawn in favour of “Director, NIT Rourkela”, payable at any bank in Rourkela.
 
D3. I have received an erroneous certificate (any). How can I get the corrected original certificate?
  You need to submit the following to NIT Rourkela get the the corrected original certificate:

  1. An application mentioning “what is incorrect or error” and the address to which the corrected certificate will be dispatched.

  2. Original incorrect certificate.

  3. No fee is required.
 
D4. An Alumnus lost/damaged his/her Original Mark/Grade sheet. How can he/she get his/her Duplicate Mark/Grade sheet?
  An Alumnus needs to submit the following to NIT Rourkela to get his/her Duplicate Mark/Grade sheet:

  1. An application mentioning the address to which the duplicate certificate will be dispatched.

  2. Xerox copy of the lost certificate.

  3. Bank draft of required amount drawn in favour of “Director, NIT Rourkela”, payable at any bank in Rourkela. The required amount is Rs. 500/- for Grade sheet (consolidated all semesters) and Rs. 500/- for each semester Mark sheet.
 
D5. Can I get individual semester-wise Mark sheet?
  Yes, you can get individual semester-wise Mark sheet. However, you need to submit the documents as mentioned in D4 above.
 
D6. Can I get individual semester-wise Grade sheet?
  No. NIT Rourkela does not issue semester-wise individual Grade sheet. As a policy it issues only one consolidated Grade sheet after completion of the course.
 
D7. Can I get certificates relating to my rank in the class and Medium of Instruction at NIT Rourkela?
  Yes, you can get certificates relating to your rank in the class and Medium of Instruction at NIT Rourkela on payment Rs. 500/- for each certificate/service.
 
D8. I have passed from NIT Rourkela in grading system (CGPA). What is the conversion formula used at NIT Rourkela to convert my CGPA to Percentage?
  Since Percentage is a point estimation and CGPA in an interval estimation, NIT Rourkela does not prescribe any conversion formula to convert CGPA to Percentage. However, for reference one can use the formula: Percentage = (CGPA – 0.5) x 10.
E. Education Verification
 
E1. I am a registered degree verifying company. How can I verify the authenticity of the degree awarded by NIT Rourkela to its students?
  If you are a registered company then only you will be able to verify the authenticity of the degree awarded by NIT Rourkela to its students online. Please log in to the Link http://educational-verification.nitrkl.ac.in and follow the instructions there after.
 
E2. Is there are any fee charged by NIT Rourkela for degree verification?
  Yes, Per student verification fee is Rs.500/- to be paid online during the process of verification using the link given in E1 above.
F. Scholarship
 
F1. Whether any scholarship is given to SC/ST students at NIT Rourkela?
  SC/ST students are eligible for Post Matric Scholarship (PMS) of the respective State Governments if they satisfy the norms set by the State Govt. For that they need to apply in appropriate time to their State Govts.

Among the admitted students in the first year top 12 SC students and top 5 ST students are eligible to get TOP CLASS SCHOLARSHIP from the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, GOI and the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, GOI respectively provided their parental annual income is below 4.5 lakhs. These students will get Top Class scholarship for four years (first year to fourth year) provided they get promoted to the next higher year, else the scholarship will be stopped.

A student who will get Top Class Scholarship will not be eligible for Post Matric Scholarship. However, he/she may get PMS if his Top Class scholarship is stopped.
 
F2. How many scholarships a student can avail at a time?
  Only one. A student getting scholarship from one Govt. fund is not eligible for the 2nd scholarship.
 
F3. Whether all students taken admission to M.Tech programme with valid GATE score will get GATE scholarship?
  Yes, they will get GATE Scholarship of Rs.8000/- per month paid every month subject to satisfying attendance requirement of the Institute.
 
F4. Is there any scholarship available for Non-GATE students taken admission to M.Tech programme?
  Non-GATE students taken admission to M.Tech programme and belonging to SC/ST categories are eligible for Post Matric Scholarship (PMS) of the respective State Governments if they satisfy the norms set by the State Govt. For that they need to apply in appropriate time to their State Govts.

There is no provision of scholarship to the Non-GATE students of other categories. However, some students satisfying eligibility norms, may be given financial assistance from TEQIP – II fund till available.
 
F5. Whether an SC/ST M.Tech student getting GATE scholarship can avail PMS scholarship?
  No, an SC/ST M.Tech student getting GATE scholarship can not avail any other scholarship.
 
F6. Under which condition a PhD student will get scholarship/fellowship?
  A PhD student having M.Tech/M.Pharm degree and within the age limit are eligible for Institute research fellowship for four years; first two years @ Rs.18000/- a month and next two years on satisfactory performance @ Rs.20000/- a month. PhD students with any other qualification will be eligible for Institute research fellowship if they have valid GATE/NET/GPAT score and are within the age limit. Such students will get fellowship for five years; first two years @ Rs.16000/- a month and next three years on satisfactory performance @ Rs.18000/- a month.

The maximum age limit is 32 years (35 years for SC/ST/Women candidates) to be eligible for fellowship.

Apart from Institute research fellowship, PhD students are eligible for External fellowships like Rajib Gandhi National Fellowship, Inspire Fellowship, Maulana Azad Fellowship, CSIR Fellowship etc. if they qualify for the said fellowship examinations and satisfy their terms and conditions.
 
F7. Is there any scholarship for M.Tech(Research) students?
  M.Tech(Research) students are eligible for Institute research fellowship provided they have valid GATE/NET/GPAT score and are within the age limit of 28 years (31 years for SC/ST/Women candidates). Such students will get fellowship maximum for two years @ Rs.8000/- a month.
 
F8. Whether a Sponsored student satisfying fellowship norms and within the age limit will get any fellowship?
  No, Sponsored students are not eligible for any type of fellowship.
 
F9. Whether a student needs to return the scholarship/fellowship if he/she discontinues the programme?
  M.Tech, M.Tech(Res) and PhD students need to return the scholarship/fellowship amount received till date to the Institute if he/she discontinues the programme. This is not applicable to the students of other programmes.
G. Foreign Students
 
G1. What are the different schemes under which a foreign student can take admission?
  At NIT Rourkela a foreign student can take admission under DASA, ICCR and MEA schemes.
 
G2. Can a foreign student take admission in any programme offered by NIT Rourkela?
  Yes, a foreign student can take admission in any programme offered by NIT Rourkela provided he/she satisfies academic eligibility of NIT Rourkela.
 
G3. What is the fee structure for a foreign student taking admission at NIT Rourkela?
  Tuition fee for different schemes are as follows:

  1. DASA: US $ 7000 (US $ 3500 for students from SAARC countries)

  2. ICCR: US $ 4000 (US $ 2000 for students from SAARC countries)

  3. MEA (Welfare): As applicable to Indian students All other fees are same as applicable to Indian students (See A4 & A5) above.
 
G4. Is there separate hostel for foreign students?
  No, there is no separate hostel for foreign students at NIT Rourkela.
