Syllabus

Module 1 :

Part I: Foundations of Modern Networking (L1-L8)
• Elements of the Modern Networking Ecosystem; Evolving Requirements (e.g., Big Data, mobility)
• Software-Defined Networking (SDN) — Background, motivation, architecture (control, data, application planes), OpenFlow,
OpenDaylight, standard
• Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) — Concepts, architecture, virtualization infrastructure, NFV-MANO framework
Part II: QoS and QoE in Modern Networks (L9-L17)
• Quality of Service (QoS) mechanisms — design implications and challenges
• Quality of Experience (QoE) — modeling, measurement, especially in interactive video and multimedia
Part III: Cloud, IoT, and Edge/Fog Computing (L18-L26)
• Cloud Networking — service models, architectures, integration with SDN/NFV
• Internet of Things (IoT) — components, architectures, implementations, and fog/edge computing concepts
Part IV: Cross-Cutting Topics (L27-L36)
• Security in SDN, NFV, Cloud, and IoT realms
• Career trends, evolving roles, and required skills in modern networking

Course Objective

1 .

1. Comprehend the architecture and motivations behind SDN and NFV.
2. Design strategies for QoS and measure user-centric QoE in multimedia networks.
3. Analyze how cloud platforms, IoT, and edge/fog paradigms shape modern designs.
4. Identify security implications and propose countermeasures across these technologies.
5. Understand emerging career pathways and adapt to evolving network engineering roles.

Course Outcome

1 .

• Architect and implement SDN and NFV-based network solutions.
• Evaluate network performance from both technical (QoS) and user (QoE) perspectives.
• Develop integrated deployments that leverage cloud and IoT infrastructures effectively.
• Formulate security-aware network designs.
• Navigate career opportunities in the landscape of modern networking technologies.
