BASIC INFORMATION

  • Make & Model : AVL, 437 C smoke meter
  • Department : Mechanical Engineering
  • Location : Department of Mechanical Engineering
  • Category : Category - III
  • Status : Functional

PRINCIPLE:

The AVL 437C operates on the principle of filter paper method for measuring soot content in exhaust gases from internal combustion engines. A defined flow rate of exhaust gas is sampled through a clean filter paper, causing blackening due to the soot. This blackening is detected by a photoelectric measuring head and evaluated by a microprocessor to calculate the result as a Filter Smoke Number (FSN)

APPLICATION:

Engine Testbeds: Measuring exhaust emissions from engines under test conditions. Chassis Dynamometers: Evaluating emissions from vehicles during dynamometer testing. Production Line Testing: Ensuring compliance with emission standards at the end of the production line. Research and Development: Testing new engine designs and after-treatment systems
