Subject {L-T-P / C} : CH3115 : Process Equipment Design { 3-0-0 / 3}

Subject Nature : Theory

Syllabus

Module 1 :

• Module-I :
Design of storage tanks (mechanical aspects) with its accessories such as roof curb angle. Design of pressure vessels with the auxiliaries like nozzles, heads (mechanical aspects only) .
• Module-II :
Design of various supports to process equipment such as guy wire, bracket, skirt and saddle support (mechanical aspects only).
• Module-III :
Detailed process design of the Heat exchangers such as: concentric tube, shell and tube types,
• Module-IV :
Detailed process design of the single and multi-effect Evaporators.
• Module-V :
Detailed process design of the mass transfer equipment such as Distillation columns for binary mixtures along with tray hydraulics

Course Objective

1 .

To help the students to understand basics of operation of different process equipment used in the industries.

2 .

To help the students to have the design knowledge of mechanical aspects of process equipment

3 .

To enable the students to design the equipment as per the process requirement

4 .

To make the students to carry out diagnosis of the operational error in the process equipment with the accessories related to the design aspects

Course Outcome

1 .

• To know the basis of design of process equipment
• To know the importance of equipment (designed for Mechanical aspects) in the industries with reliable methods of fabrication
• To know the key parameters controlling the performance of the process equipment
• To design various process equipment to perform satisfactorily in the industries
• To identify the fault in the design in case of unsatisfactory performance
