Syllabus

Module 1 :

1. To Analyze the composition of the supplied sample of coal via Proximate Analysis.
2. To find the effect of temperature on viscosity of the supplied liquid fuels using the Redwood viscometer.
3. To find the Flash and Fire points of the supplied samples of liquid fuel using the Pensky-Martens closed cup apparatus.
4. To find the Aniline point and Diesel Index of the supplied samples of liquid fuels.
5. To find the moisture content of the supplied samples of liquid fuel using the Dean and Stark apparatus.
6. To find the Pour point and Solidification point of the supplied samples of liquid fuels.
7. To find the Calorific value of solid fuel using the Bomb calorimeter.
8. To determine the softening point of Bituminous materials using the Ring and Ball apparatus.
9. To determine the viscosity of petroleum products using the Saybolt viscometer.
10. To determine the viscosity of petroleum products using the U-tube viscometer.
11. To find the carbon residue of the supplied sample of liquid fuels using the Conradson apparatus.

Course Objective

1 .

The basic aim is to perform practical studies on various types of solid and liquid fuels for estimation of their properties and interpretation of results.

Course Outcome

1. To be able to understand the basic characteristics of solid and liquid fuels.
2. To be able to understand the challenges of safety during handling and storage of liquid fuels.
3. To be able to analyze different petroleum products and identify adulteration.
4. To be able to understand the flow characteristics of liquid fuels.
5. To be able to implement the knowledge of fuel technology for real practices.
