Syllabus

Module 1 :

The main experiments involved include the following.
1. Determination of dissolved oxygen content in water by Winkler’s method.
2. Soap preparation using the given vegetable oil or fat.
3. Determination of the amount of Cl2 dissolved in a given sample by Mhor’s method.
4. Determination of saponification value of oil sample.
5. Determination of the acid value of given sample of oil or fat.
6. Determination of the fat content in food stuff as % by weight.
7. Estimation of total organic carbon in a given sample.
8. Estimation of chromium in wastewater sample.
9. Estimation of TDS in wastewater sample.
10. Estimation of BOD in wastewater sample.

Course Objective

1 .

The laboratory aims at imparting a comprehensive picture about various laboratory procedures for chemical compounds and inherent substances properties estimation.

2 .

Water sample parameters like chlorine content, dissolved oxygen are to be estimated.

3 .

Oil sample analysis based on the saponification value, acid value are to be estimated. Synthetic preparation of a soap sample from a oil sample will be practised.

4 .

Develop technical skills in operating laboratory equipment

Course Outcome

1 .

1. An ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data
2. The fundamental understanding of chemistry of different chemical and allied processes are part of this laboratory outcome as well.
3. Estimation of important parameters in water sample analysis can enable students use them in their final year projects.
4.Demonstrate knowledge of fundamental process engineering principles used in industries.
5. Identify ways to improve efficiency and sustainability in industrial processes.
