Module 1: Conceptual Architecture: Society, Culture, Social Institutions, Status and Role Types and Features of Society, Types of Culture, Types and Functions of Social Institutions, AGIL Model.

Module 2: Structure and Composition of Indian Society: Unity and Diversity in India: Geo-political Factors, Caste, Class, Tribes, Dalits, Race, Ethnicity, Religion, Linguistic Groups, Regionalism, Communalism, Secularism

Module 3: Kinship, Marriage and Family: Dimensions and Significance of Kinship, Kinship Groups, Family and Marriage: Type, Function and Significance, Rules of Marriage, Indian Joint Family Changing Patterns of Marriage and Family

Module 4: Socio-spatial Structure: Rural and Urban Areas, Towns and Cities, Rural-Urban Contrast and Continuum. Urbanization

Module 5: Perspectives on Social Change – Evolutionary, Conflict, Cyclical. Processes of Change: Sanskritization, Westernization, Modernization
