Subject {L-T-P / C} : CY6101 : Advanced Analytical Chemistry { 3-0-0 / 3}

Module 1 :

Spectroscopic Techniques [15 classes]: Atomic absorption spectroscopy, atomic emission spectroscopy, X-ray Diffraction: Principle, Instrumentation and Applications, Basic principles of X-Ray Photo electron Spectroscopy and instrumentation, Principles of Raman spectroscopy, analysis and interpretation of Raman data, Basic theory of Mossbauer spectroscopy.
Microscopic Techniques [15 classes]: Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), electromagnetic lenses, important parts of TEM, Filaments, Depth of Field and Depth of Focus, Magnification, Image contrast. Scanning electron microscope and its working principle, electron-specimen interaction.
Electroanalytical techniques [5 classes]: Cyclic voltmeter.

Course Objective

The course aims to provide comprehensive understanding on various analytical techniques

The course will provide understanding on X-ray diffraction and XPS

3 .

The course provides understanding on electron microscopy and basic instrumentation of TEM and SEM

4 .

The course provides understanding on analysis of Raman and Mossbauer spectra.

Course Outcome

1 .

1. Understanding of basic fundamentals and instrumentation of various techniques.
2. Understanding the instrumentation of powder X-ray diffractometer and analyzing the PXRD data.
3. Understanding the important parts of TEM and SEM and analyzing the TEM and FESEM data to determine the particle size and elemental composition
4. Applying the concept of Raman scattering Mossbauer effect to understand the local environment of various compounds.
5. Understanding of cyclic voltamogram.
