Mine planning and its importance Components of mine planning, Technical and economic considerations for planning, Engineering studies (PFS, FS, DFS), Introduction to resource estimation approaches. Preparation of feasibility report and detailed project report. Production planning and scheduling. Examples of Mine Planning Report in India and abroad
Planning and Design of Surface Mine: [ 7 ]
Geometrical considerations for design of surface mines: Pit geometry, Pit layouts – Mine access, pit expansion and push back operation.
Pit Planning and Design: Pit design, Cut-off grade and its estimation, Ultimate pit design – hand method, floating cone technique, Lerchs-Grossmann algorithm. Production Scheduling-Concepts, Optimum mine size and Taylor’s mine life rule, Design of haul roads and their specification
Underground Mine Planning: [ 7 ]
Stope planning: Selection of stopping methods, Evaluate stope dimension. Production planning: Stope reserve, development, manpower, ore/waste handling, essential services, production scheduling, Optimization of mine size (mine production capacity) based on techno-economic considerations. Design of remnant pillars (crown/sill pillar).
Introduction to planning of stratified deposits.

Equipment system selection –for surface mines and underground mines (coal and metal). Mine infrastructure planning- optimal location of mine entries, associated mine infrastructure (plant, workshop, statutory buildings, layout) and its significance. In-pit crushing & conveying
Mine closure planning: [ 5 ]
Initial, Progressive and Final Mine Closure Planning and its components Legal and Financial Aspects. Rehabilitation, mine closure and post-industrial land use planning. Audits and Benchmarking
Other tools & techniques for mine planning and designs: [ 5 ]
Introduction, Uses, Examples of industry standard software and use cases. Use of drones and Lidar in mining. Digitalization and Automation in Mines, Ore loss and dilutions/Grade Control in Mines, Mine to Mill Reconciliation.
Case studies on various aspects planning and designing of coal and metal mines through opencast and underground mining methods

Course Objective

1 .

To create awareness on various features of mine planning as compared to other industries

To Provide information on latest formalities of preparation of feasibility report and detailed project report with reference to latest amendments in Indian mining law with case studies

3 .

To help students in planning mines for required production, productivity, etc. for underground and opencast mines

To understand various tools and software used for planning, design and operation of mines
