Syllabus

Module 1 :

Module I. Introduction to Human Body: Orientation, levels of structural organization and body systems, basic life processes, homeostasis, basic anatomical terminology.[2hrs]
Module II. Cellular and Tissue level Organization : Biochemistry / Enzymes, Cell Transport, Cell Communication, Endocrine System, Cell Division, Cancer, Tissues. [2hrs]
Module III. Muscular system: Anatomy of the Muscular System, Nerve conduction velocity assessment, Osmolality and specific gravity measurements, Neuromuscular Physiology: Electromyography for muscle strength and fatigue. [6 hrs]
Module IV. The Cardiovascular System: Anatomy of the Cardiovascular System, Cardiovascular Physiology: ECG interpretation, Heart auscultation, Pulse and blood pressure determination, Regulation of the cardiovascular system. [6hrs]
Module V. The Respiratory System: Anatomy of the respiratory System, Respiratory Physiology: Oxygen saturation, Blood gases assessment, Peak flow assessment, Spirometry, Respiratory rate and lung sound assessment, Regulation of respiratory system. [5hrs]
Module VI. The Digestive system: Anatomy of the Digestive System, Digestion process, Role of different accessory and secondary organs in digestion, Gastrointestinal Physiology: Flexible sigmoidoscopy.[7 hrs]
Module VII. The integumentary system: Structure and functions of skin. [3 hrs]
Module VIII. Integrative Physiology: Dietary plans, Endocrinology: Blood glucose determination
First Aid: Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (chest compression, external defibrillation), Rehydration choices, Endotracheal intubation. [8 hrs]

Course Objective

To learn the structural and functional components of human body

2 .

To correlate the structural and functions of the organs and organ systems with various diseases

3 .

To understand engineering principles involved in anatomy and physiology of human body.

Course Outcome

1 .

At the end of the course the student will be able to
1. Explain the anatomy of the organ and organ systems of the human body.
2. Narrate the physiology of each organ to the maintenance of homeostasis.
3. Elucidate the physiological and pathological aspects of growth and development.
4. Explain the engineering principles involved in the anatomy and physiology of human body.
5. Understand the coordination between different organs and organ systems.
