Module1: [ 10 Hours]

Transmission line theory: lumped element circuit model the telegrapher equations terminated lossless transmission line generator and load mismatches lossy transmission lines. Smith chart: Impedance and admittance Smith chart applications. Impedance matching and tuning: matching with lumped elements single-stub tuning double stub tuning Quarter wave transformer – Impedance matching by stubs – Single stub and double stub matching – Smith chart – Solutions of problems using Smith chart – Single and double stub matching using Smith chart.


Module2: [ 10 Hours]

Wave guides and Cavity resonators : General Wave behaviours along uniform Guiding structures, Transverse Electromagnetic waves, Transverse Magnetic waves, Transverse Electric waves, TM and TE waves between parallel plates, TM and TE waves in Rectangular wave guides, Bessel’s differential equation and Bessel function, TM and TE waves in Circular wave guides, Microwave resonators: series and parallel resonant circuits loaded, unloaded and external Q, transmission line resonators waveguide cavities dielectric resonators stepped impedance resonators excitation of resonators. Rectangular and circular cavity Resonators.


Module3: [ 4Hours]
Microwave Circuit Theory Principles: Equivalent voltages and currents
Z, Y, S, and ABCD parameters Equivalent circuit representation of
microwave junctions Scattering parameter analysis of microwave
junctions Coupling of waveguides through probes, loops, and apertures.


Module4: [ 8 Hours]
Passive and Active microwave Devices Microwave Passive components: Directional Coupler, Power Divider, Magic Tee, Wave-guide Corners, Bends, Twists,
Attenuator, Circulator, Isolator and Resonator. Microwave Active components: Tunnel diode, Varactor diodes, Step recovery diodes, Schottky Barrier diodes, PIN diodes, Gunn Diodes, IMPATT and TRAPATT diodes, Parametric Amplifiers,
Microwave Transistors, Microwave oscillators and Mixers. Microwave tubes: Klystron, TWT, Magnetron





Module 5: [ 6 Hours]

Introduction to Antenna Fundamentals Intro, History, Types of Antennas, Applications, Future Trends. Radiation Mechanisms, Single and Two wire Antennas, dipole, Current distribution, Antenna Parameters: Radiation Pattern, lobes, isotropic, omni, directional, Principal Patterns, Field Regions Radiation Power Density, Intensity, Beam width, directivity, Efficiency, Gain, Bandwidth, and Polarization.

1. Understand the concepts of Maxwell’s Equation and propagation of plane electromagnetic wave through conductors & wave guides.

2. Complete fundamentals and essential feature of waveguides, resonators and microwave components.

3. Understand the concepts of microwave network analysis.

4. Understand electromagnetic radiation mechanism and its physics

CO1: Analyze the transmission lines and their parameters using the Smith Chart.

CO2: Classify the Guided Wave solutions -TE, TM, and TEM

CO3: Analyze and design waveguides and understand the propagation of electromagnetic waves.

CO4: Analyze typical microwave networks using impedance, admittance, transmission
and scattering matrix representations.


CO5: Perform analysis mathematically the operation and working of the various passive and active microwave devices.

CO6: To understand the fundamentals of antenna theory antenna parameters.
