| Module 1 : |
Experiment 1: Detection of surface flaws in metallic materials using Liquid or Dye Penetrant Testing (LPT or DPT).

| Module 2 : |
Experiment 2: Familiarization with Ultrasonic Test (UT) equipment/components and operation. Estimation of near field length of the available probe. |
| Module 3 : |
Experiment 3: Calibration of Ultrasonic Test system using IIW V1 block and normal probe for: (i) horizontal linearity, (ii) Vertical linearity, and sensitivity. Estimation of velocity of ultrasonic wave in the Perspex region of IIW V1 block. |
| Module 4 : |
Experiment 4: Calibration of Ultrasonic Test system using IIW V1 block and angle beam probe for: (i) range calibration, (ii) probe index point, (iii) angle verification, (iv) Calibration for back wall echo using R25 and R100 curvature, and (v) sensitivity using side drill 1.5 mm hole (at 15 mm depth). |

Experiment 5: Additive Manufacturing: Preparation of a rectangular specimen by Selective Laser Melting (SLM). |

Experiment 6: Observation of staircase effect of a rectangular specimen prepared by SLM. Skill required for reduction of staircase effect by change in parameter (focusing on scanning speed and direction).

Course Objective
| 1 . |
1. Develop a foundational understanding of the principles, procedures, instruments, advantages, limitations, applicable materials, and standards for surface inspection techniques: Visual Testing (VT) and Liquid Penetrant Testing (LPT). |
| 2 . |
2. Understand the principles and practices of internal defect detection method—Ultrasonic Testing (UT)—including their instrumentation, capabilities, limitations, suitable materials, and relevant standards. Learn calibration procedures for ultrasonic test systems and reference blocks to ensure accurate and reliable inspection results. Gain knowledge of UT equipment and techniques, with a focus on normal beam pulse-echo ultrasonic flaw detectors and transducers. |

3. Acquire practical skills through hands-on experience in performing ultrasonic inspections using angle beam testing. Hands-on experience to detect flaws in welded joints. |

To acquire complete idea of Additive Manufacturing: Preparation of a specimen, Observation of staircase effect, Preparation of microlattice, and Observation of surface morphology of microlattice by Selective Laser Melting (SLM). |
