Overview of commonly used software: MATLAB, ABAQUS, RS 2, REVIT and other civil engineering software
Basics of computational modelling and simulation

Module 2 :

Programming and Computational Tools in Civil Engineering [3 Hours]
Basics of MATLAB/ PYTHON for civil engineering applications
Automation of calculations (structural analysis, traffic flow, material properties)
Data analysis and visualization for civil engineering problems

Module 3 :

Finite Element Modelling and Analysis [6 Hours]
Basics of the Finite Element Method (FEM)
Introduction to ABAQUS/ANSYS for structural analysis
Static, dynamic, and buckling analysis of structures
Case study on FEM applications in civil engineering

Module 4 :

Geotechnical Engineering Applications [6 Hours]
Slope stability analysis and foundation design (RocScience 2/Slide 2)

Module 5 :

Pavement Engineering Applications [3 Hours]

Course Objective

1 .

Understand the Role of Computer Applications in Civil Engineering – Explore the importance of software tools for drafting, analysis, design, and project management in civil engineering.

2 .

Develop Proficiency in Structural and Geotechnical Analysis Software – Gain hands-on experience with any suitable software such as ABAQUS, and Rocscience for structural, transportation and geotechnical modelling

3 .

Apply Hydrological, BIM, and Project Management Tools – Utilize HEC-RAS/HEC-HMS, Revit, and Primavera P6 for water resource management, building information modelling, and construction planning.

4 .

Integrate Computational and Programming Tools for Civil Engineering Solutions – Use MATLAB for automating calculations, data analysis, and simulation of civil engineering problems.

Course Outcome

1 .

Master Civil Engineering Software Tools – Demonstrate proficiency in using design software such as ABAQUS for practical engineering applications.

2 .

Conduct Structural and Geotechnical Modelling – Perform analysis and design of structures and geotechnical systems using industry-standard software tools, including geotechnical analysis using Rocscience and foundation design

3 .

Apply Hydrological / Water Resources Engineering Software – Use tools like HEC-RAS/ HEC-HMS to model hydraulic systems conduct river analysis/ hydrological modelling.

4 .

Implement Building Information Modeling (BIM) – Create and manage civil engineering projects using BIM software like Revit and Navisworks for architectural and structural modeling, as well as project collaboration.

5 .

Integrate Programming and Computational Tools – Apply MATLAB software to automate engineering calculations, analyze data, and solve real-world civil engineering problems.
